Nursery Care Provided
An Open and Affirming Congregation
Our goal is to help children know how deeply they are loved by God and to help them find ways of sharing that love with others. Through participation in worship, church school, and an array of events & projects, children grow in their ability to see life through the lens of faith. They connect with others of all generations who are exploring their faith and asking questions. Rooting our faith journey in the wisdom of the Bible is key to our identity as we discover the power of story to teach larger truths.
We offer church school concurrently with worship at 10am. Classes for each age/grade of preschool through seventh grade explore story through “I wonder…” discussions and hands-on response such as activities, games or crafts. We use a combination of inclusive curriculum and custom lessons designed to coordinate with special themes in worship and adult/youth classes. Nursery care and classes meet in Pilgrim House, diagonally behind the church on Cleaveland Street.
Nursery care for Little Ones (birth through toddler age) is available at 9:45. Our professional caregiver provides a consistent and loving presence. Parents are welcome to leave a cell phone number or take a pager if they want to be contacted during worship.
Preschool and Kindergarteners also come to classrooms before worship begins. Their brief chapel time is followed by story, crafts/activities and free play. Children in first through seventh grade begin the morning in worship with their families. Following the children’s moment, children and teachers go to church school. On Communion Sundays, children are included in communion as we offer the sacrament early in the service before they go to church school. Periodic intergenerational worship services bring all generations together in a dynamic worship experience that truly touches people no matter their age.
All Ages Birthday Party, Advent-ure, Epiphany party, and Mardi Gras are a few of the events after worship or early evening that we regularly host to provide families and the congregation a time to celebrate and connect.
From mid-June through Labor Day we mirror the relaxed pace of summer in Maine. Child care for infants through three year olds begins at 9:45. Children age four and older begin the morning in worship and then meet on the Pilgrim House playground following the children’s moment. A brief story or message is followed by crafts and games and free play.
The Maine Conference of the UCC offers deeply enriching programs for children, teens and adults at our beautiful lake-side summer camp near Augusta (about 30 minutes from Brunswick). From Memorial Day through mid –September, each week offers thematic experiences for various age groups. Spending a week immersed in the beauty of nature exploring God’s presence in our lives is a formative experience that can launch a lifetime of faith. | Learn More
