Members and friends of First Parish Church responded generously to a fund raising effort to support a Habitat Build providing a handicapped accessible home for Diane and Earl Black on Stone Street in Brunswick. The Blacks have been waiting nearly four years until land became available near the downtown area. This was important to enable them to get to needed services because neither is able to drive. Both work at Spindleworks using their skills in making crafts for sale.
At a congregational meeting last fall, the Church voted to raise at least $35,000 to support the Build. The current figure of gifts and pledges is over $45,000, and response to the project continues. The formal campaign ended on February 11 with a dedication during morning worship.
In January the Outreach Committee sponsored a Bean Supper with the funds dedicated to the Build. Individuals fund raising efforts, and an unforgettable piano concert with Carol Elowe in February added to the total.
Construction began in the spring of 2007 with completion in the fall. This fundraising project was a vision of the Outreach Committee. You can review the construction photo album by clicking here.
