Healing Begins with Truth: Understanding Colonization
Participants in this Wabanaki REACH program, co-sponsored by Adult Christian Education and the Brunswick Area Interfaith Council, explored the differences between the worldview and culture of Indigenous peoples and settlers (and their descendants). Using historical and present-day examples, participants learned about colonization and its impact on Indigenous people, land, and culture, as well as on the domination culture. They also worked to identify ways to support healing in relation to each other and to the land. This opportunity linked to other ACE programming: the Wabanaki REACH workshop “Interacting with Wabanaki and Maine History,” and a curator-led tour of an exhibition on Wabanaki Basket-Making at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art.
